We train future leaders

Seenaryo trains youth and women to become creative leaders in their communities. The MENA region has the highest youth unemployment rate in the world and without quality training opportunities, young people lack the opportunity to develop their professional skills.

We are currently addressing these challenges through our Theatre Leadership Training and our Scenechangers programme. Our trainings aim to create wider and alternative employment pathways for young people. We increase the skills and employability of our trainees by training them to use participatory tools when leading workshops and by providing ongoing mentorship. We are often subsequently able to employ our trainees to lead our programmes, or connect them to employment pathways with other organisations.

  • Theatre Leadership Training

Our Theatre Leadership Training aims to establish a culture of creativity for the long-term. We train and fund our adult theatre participants to run their own theatre projects in their communities.

Participants often lead a Seenaryo Satellite as part of the training. We give them a small budget to run their own project and they are then responsible for the full project – from budgeting and planning, to delivery and evaluation.

The training won Seenaryo the top Arts prize at the 2023 UK Charity Awards and was shortlisted for an Ockendon Prize.

  • Scenechangers

Seenaryo is rolling out our Scenechangers programme across Lebanon and Jordan. Over four years, we will train and employ 100+ Scenechangers aged 18-30, to lead participatory theatre workshops, exploring social and civic issues.

The Scenechangers will be embedded in community-based organisations to deliver the workshops to 12-15 year olds. We will also train schoolteachers to deliver these workshops, embedding theatre into the heart of the school day and exposing over 20,000 young youth to theatre for the first time.
