Presenting Ibn Battuta Travels
Seenaryo has launched the next phase of Ibn Battuta Travels. This cross-country theatre epic will see five plays created in parallel over the coming months.
The first chapter of Ibn Battuta Travels premiered at Shubbak Festival in London earlier this year. Now, local ensembles in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Egypt are embarking on this epic journey.
The devastating impact of occupation, genocide and restrictive visa regimes has led to a sense of isolation and fragmentation across our region. This calls for a response that is collaborative, creative and nuanced. Rather than allowing others to define the narrative, Ibn Battuta Travels creates a stage where hundreds of voices can collectively imagine, resist and craft new stories.
Why Ibn Battuta?
One of history’s greatest travellers, Ibn Battuta journeyed 75,000 miles across the Arab and Islamic world in the 14th century – three times further than Marco Polo. The account of his travels, The Rihla, provokes timeless questions around identity of place, travel and storytelling.
Generously supported by Porticus, Linbury Trust & Choose Love in partnership with Dawar Arts & Al-Harah Theatre.
