Voices from Lebanon
On 29 June 2026, celebrated actors including Maxine Peake, Juliet Stevenson and Khalid Abdalla took to the stage in London to perform monologues written by Seenaryo participants during the most recent war in Lebanon. This project, however, is greater than a single night of performances in London.
It began during the war with a series of online writing workshops that brought together 96 people from across Lebanon, creating a space for them to reflect on and process their experiences through storytelling. Participants shared intimate moments of love, loss and displacement through their writing. Eight of their monologues were chosen to be performed in London.
The night of monologues – Voices from Lebanon – aimed to capture what the war actually felt like to live through, beyond the headlines. Through the eight monologues, a sold-out audience at Underbelly Boulevard Soho was invited into a series of very different experiences of war, seeing the conflict through the specific circumstances of each writer’s life.
The monologues were performed by Maxine Peake, Juliet Stevenson, Khalid Abdalla, Denise Gough, Ammar Haj Ahmad, Sirine Saba and Necar Zadegan, with a recorded monologue by Oscar-winning Hamnet star Jessie Buckley. The evening was hosted by writer/director Amrou Al-Kadhi.
