10 years of Seenaryo

In August 2015, a group of 30 children in Shatila refugee camp performed the first-ever Seenaryo Showbuild, Be Careful What You Wish For. They created a world of genies and magical moons at a community centre in the camp.

What began in community spaces in 2015 has since expanded into classrooms, onto stages, and toured to international festivals over the past decade.

Many of the children who took part in that very first Showbuild in Shatila are still with Seenaryo today – as facilitators, directors and trainers. Thirteen-year-old Ahmad was among the children who created the first Showbuild, writing and performing the character of a phone seller. Over the past decade, he has participated in three more Showbuilds, three flagship Studio productions and toured to Germany twice. He has since trained to become one of our regular facilitators and now leads theatre projects with his community.

This cascade effect has created spaces of expression and radical joy against a backdrop of political crisis, war, and displacement over the last 10 years.

To mark our anniversary, we’ve published a 10 year history and launched a new series – 10 stories for 10 years – which celebrates a few participants’ journeys with Seenaryo over the past decade.
