Tha’er | Youth Theatre participant

Tha’er joined Seenaryo’s Youth Theatre in Autumn 2016 along with his two siblings. From day one he was incredibly enthusiastic and always keen to contribute creative ideas. Throughout the process he was supportive of everyone else, always working hard and in the best interests of the team.

Here’s what he shared with our communications manager, Tamara Salhab, in December 2016.

Q: How old are you?
A: Thirteen.

Q: What’s your favourite football team?
A: I don’t really follow football. I enjoy dance. I started dancing at a young age, I would go to parties and learn there.

Q: Who is your favourite singer?
A: I don’t really mind as long as they have a good voice and nice songs!

Q: What’s your favourite food?
A: I like fast food, not the home-cooked stuff. Like chicken wings, deep fried chicken and shawarma. Not stuff made at home.

Q: What’s your favourite subject at school?
A: English. Because for us Syrians, we’re not very strong at English. We didn’t really study it at school. But now our language skills are getting stronger which is better.

Q: Where is the nicest place you’ve ever been to?
A: Here, I’ve had a lot of fun at these Weekly Workshops.

Q: What are you most thankful for?
A: My family because they’ve raised me and protected me. They’re the ones that have kept an eye out for me and registered me in school. Without them I could have been in danger.

Q: What have you learned during these Weekly Workshops?
A: I’ve learned a lot of dance moves that I didn’t really know before. So I think I’ve developed a lot.

Q: What’s been your favourite part of the programme?
A: Being here with my friends. My brother and sister are here too. Each one of us is two years younger than the other. I’m the eldest.

Q: What has the biggest challenge for you during this programme?
A: There haven’t been any challenges really.

Q: If you could score today out of ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, what would you give it?
A: Ten! Because I really like being at the centre and everything we’ve learned has been really fun.
